WORCESTERSHIRE BADGER SOCIETY |
Renardine now illegal
Legal requirements for using chemicals to deter badgers come under the poison and pesticides regulations. These state that any product used as a deterrent against animals must be tested and authorised for the use to which it is put.
The only product that was licensed for use against badgers was called Renardine. Since 24th March 2005 all licences applied to Renardine have been withdrawn. It is now illegal to produce, advertise, sell, store or use this product. For advice on how to dispose of any stocks of this product please refer to the appropriate section of DEFRA's web site.
If you see this product offered for sale you should contact your local trading standards department. If you know of anyone using this product you should inform either the Police, DEFRA or Worcestershire Badger Society. Holders of our leaflet entitled "Badgers in your garden" should delete, from the appropriate section, references to this product and its use. Replacement leaflets are available from Worcestershire Badger Society by writing to the usual address enclosing a stamped addressed envelope.
